About Cornerstone
Cornerstone strives to be transparent imitators of Christ. However, we make no claim of being perfect (or even close), yet we are trying to glorify God by living out the Gospel to the best of our ability through the power of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, we seek to build the following concepts into everything that we do.
Our mission: Cornerstone strives to glorify God by motivating and equipping young single adults in North Oakland County 1to seek and understand God as He has revealed Himself in His Word, 2to believe and share the gospel, 3to love God and His Son Jesus Christ with all our hearts, and 4to forsake all and follow Christ in His Church.
What does it all mean?
1) We seek and understand God as He has revealed Himself in His Word (Jer 9:23–24; John 17:3; John 1:14) through our weekly ABF meetings on Sunday morning. In these meetings we study theological topics, which help us to expand our comprehension of God. We also provide small-group Bible studies and encourage each member to consistently study God’s Word on their own.
2) We believe and share the gospel (John 1:12; John 6:29). We base all that we do on the gospel of God’s grace and the forgiveness provided for us through the death and resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ. Our Friday Focus messages are focused on introducing the gospel to the unsaved and applying the gospel to the lives of believers.
We are also involved in several outreach efforts both locally and outside Oakland County. ALocally, we lead a weekly Bible study at Oakland University, and we host several activities with the purpose of reaching our community with the gospel. BOutside Oakland County we have the privilege of further participating in God’s global purpose by taking annual mission trips to various states and countries and by occasionally helping other ministries within the state of Michigan.
3) We promote a passionate love for God & Jesus Christ (Matt 22:37–38; John 15:9, 11) in our messages and our conversations. We display our love for God through our worship as we participate in joyful singing, thankful testimonies and dependent prayer. We also show our love for God in our loving relationships with others.
4) We gladly heed God’s call to forsake all and follow Christ (Luke 14:27, 33; Matt 28:18-20). The salvation that Jesus Christ provides frees us from the bondage of sin. Therefore, we gladly heed God’s call to forsake sin and anything else that would hinder our joyful pursuit of Him. In the midst of a decadent culture, we emphasize purity of mind and body and a wholehearted turning away from our former way of life.
Following Christ involves joining our lives with other believers in the body of Christ, the Church (Eph 4:3-6, 4:12-16). Therefore, we provide many opportunities for edifying fellowship with other Cornerstone members as well as with other members of First Baptist Church of Lake Orion. These godly relationships are used to point each other toward Jesus Christ.
We encourage and equip all Cornerstone members to use their time, their energy, their academic studies, and their careers to serve God and promote His kingdom. The only lives that have lasting value are lives that are fully committed to God’s purpose.
